Just last year, Chanel went after an online store called “Shop Jeen” – a teen internet sensation backed by a 24-year-old, Instagram-famous girl. Chanel filed a lawsuit accusing the young retailer of federal trademark infringement, trademark counterfeiting, false designation of origin, trademark dilution, and common law trademark infringement. The popularity of Shop Jeen’s website amongst the millennials brought phone cases to the world famous designer’s attention. The cases replicate the iconic Chanel No. 5 perfume bottles. They also come with a detachable purse strap which mimic the signature quilted purse strap that comes on genuine Chanel bags. Lucky for the future of Shop Jeen, the cases were the only thing mimicking Chanel products. If there were any fake Chanel bags being sold on their site, it’s safe to say Shop Jeen would be fresh out of a business.

Designers have the right to protect their image, so it’s no surprise Chanel filed a lawsuit against Shop Jeen for the promotion and selling of a replica Chanel. The production of the phone cases and fake Chanel bags are damaging to Chanel’s reputation of high quality goods. Any production of counterfeit goods such as phone cases, shoes, perfumes, or fake Chanel bags is detrimental to Chanel’s business as a whole. Although people may not be confusing Shop Jeen’s Chanel-looking phone cases for the real thing, Chanel still has copyrights and can protect their name from any replica Chanel products.

The replica Chanel cases have been taken down from the online site and the court has issued a permanent injunction to prevent Shop Jeen from any other Chanel trademarks. Avoid purchasing fake Chanel bags and other replica Chanel products. By going straight to an authorized Chanel dealer you know you are purchasing a genuinely made product.
